Zion National Park Eats

Wild Cat Willies (restaurant closed) – This restaurant is located at the center of town across from the elementary school. We ate breakfast here and looked like a a pretty popular place. There were two displays of a miniature winter village flanking both sides of the entance to the restaurant that entertained  our kids.

The restaurant interior looked like a western saloon with wood carvings hugging the posts and Wile E. Coyote, Yosemite Sam and the Roadrunner displayed for everyone to admire and pose with.   Sadly, we had to explain these characters to our kids who grew up with Disney stuff. There were only two servers on the morning we were there but both of them were pretty attentive and helpful despite the crowd.

We also ordered the bumbleberry pancakes which was a local specialty.  Honestly, I didn’t know what a bumbleberry was before coming here so I had to search it. There’s always something new to learn.  It was two large pancakes smothered with berries which was a big hit with my daughter. Bumbleberry syrup was also available.  It was sweet but really no distinctive flavor.

The restrooms were clean with a couple of stalls but had no changing tables.   While waiting for our food, we wandered into the adjacent store(Bumbleberry Gifts) that sold bumbleberry items, t-shirts, shoes and towards the back was a bake shop selling bumbleberry pies by the whole or slice.

We forgot to pick up a slice after breakfast.   There was a little story on the wall regarding bumbleberries as we walked into the shop.  A sure thing to keep kids occupied for a little bit.  It was a great place for breakfast with an overall good value and plenty of selections.

The Flying Monkey – We couldn’t resist to check this pizza place out just for its name alone.   We ordered our pizzas to go from this restaurant.  In hindsight, we should have called ahead for a pick-up.  There were plenty of seats and was pretty spacious.

We ordered the Maui Wowie which was Pineapple & Ham and the roasted vegetable ( a mesh of zucchini, mushroom, cucumber, red pepers) pizzas.    As I was waiting for my pizza, I sat at the bar and watched them prepare my pizzas and slide it into their big oven.   The pizzas were thin sliced and were very flavorful with lots of fresh ingredients.  They were delicious and we’d definitely come back here next time to try out the rest of their menu.
